    Abstract
    Abstract
This research seeks to draw connections between service learning and the Common Core State Standards for Literacy (CCSS). Researchers surveyed 182 secondary teachers in New Jersey regarding their current use of service learning, their perceptions of the efficacy of service learning as a methodology for helping students meet the CCSS, and what supports would help teachers implement quality service learning effectively. Based on their findings, the researchers made recommendations for strengthening teachers’ use of service learning in order to help students develop as literate individuals.
