Abstract
Casting bones is the current method for setting bones after they are broken to dissuade movement and ensure optimal conditions for bone healing. Casting, however, is a cause for concern because bone mineral density can decrease ‐5% to ‐30% in 30 days [1]. Further studies using FE models derived from microCT scans will help us to better understand exactly what changes in bone contribute to changes in bone strength resulting from casting. The main focus of this study is to determine bone volume, FEA Stiffness, and structural efficiency of these casted bones.
