Cross-linked Alginate Membranes: reusable, permanently cross-linked electrospun nanofibers for remediation of metal-contaminated water
MetadataShow full item record
Metals in elemental, inorganic and organic forms are found ubiquitously in all areas of the earth, including marine and aquatic environments. While some dissolved metal ions are essential to life, others are highly toxic contaminants. Human activities, including fossil fuel burning and industrial activities, generate dangerously elevated concentrations of these toxic materials, with grave implications for ecological systems and human health. In our research, we address this problem by producing nanofiber membranes of the biopolymer alginate to remove dissolved toxic metals from water.
