Enhancer Binding Protein (EBP) Regulation of σ54 Systems in Bacteria
MetadataShow full item record
Transcription in bacteria (like Myxococcus xanthus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) requires sigma factors during Initiation. σ 54 is a sigma factor family with only one member, σ 54. This sigma factor is unique in the fact that it requires an activator known as an enhancer-binding protein (EBP). Whereas σ54 binds at the promoter, the EBP binds at sites 80-150 bp upstream of the promoter. In this study, primers were designed for P. aeruginosa to introduce point mutations in EBP binding sites. Genes with upstream σ54 binding sites and a nearby EBP gene were identified.
