Abstract
Global America in the Twentieth Century, written by Alan Dawley, Christopher Fisher, and Robert McGreevey, examines the history of the United States from the late 19th century to the present in a global context. To be published by Oxford University Press in the summer of 2017, Global America’s intended audience is undergraduate college students in introductory courses. This book differs from previous literature as it offers a new perspective on American history through a global lens. Global America
challenges the “exceptionalist” narrative of American history by synthesizing America’s past and its integration with world history. The book is comprised of fourteen chapters, separated into two parts: “Industry and Empire” and “Burdens of the Colossus.” Prior to the summer of 2016, Global America’s manuscript was completed yet was in need of final edits and photographs to be
interwoven into the text.
